Getting to know Pablo Cerdera:
I am a Restorative Justice practitioner and educator with a higher education and community centered practice and focus on racial, economic, and gender justice in my work. I believe that RJ philosophies and practices can fundamentally change the ways we are in relationship and serve as a steppingstone toward collective liberation. I live on the Indigenous territory known as Lenapehoking, the traditional homelands of the Lenape or Delaware People, in what is now called West Philadelphia. Growing up as a middle child in a cross-cultural, cross-class, and multifaith Spanish and Jewish home, I developed my conflict and communications skills at a young age.
Since February 2020, I have served as Deputy Director of Restorative Practices at the University of Pennsylvania. I began my professional work at Legal Rights Center in Minneapolis and have volunteered or worked as an RJ practitioner with Restorative Justice Community Action, Conflict Resolution Center, and Good Shepherd Mediation Program. I have provided in-depth training and consulting services at Yale, Princeton, Drexel, Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education, and numerous community organizations. I am a contributing author to "Applying Restorative Justice to Campus Sexual Misconduct" edited by Kaaren Williamsen and Erik Wessel, and “Beyond Investigations: Emerging Strategies for Resolving Civil Rights Complaints through Informal Resolution” for the 2026 NACUA conference.
My professional work is only one part of my committment to living restoratively. Since 2019 I have convened the Philadelphia RJ/TJ Wisdom Circle, a monthly gathering of restorative and transformative justice practitioners and advocates who share, learn, and sustain one another in this work. I serve on the Board of Directors of Let's Circle Up, a restorative justice education program built and led by people incarcerated at SCI Phoenix, where I have volunteered since 2020. My practice is rooted in community, accountable to people most impacted by the systems this work seeks to change, and honest about what restorative justice asks of us. I am committed to sharing the restorative lifeway and firmly believe in the power to transform harm, promote meaningful accountability, and develop strong and healthy communities through this approach.
